As food prices skyrocket in North Korea, hunger is worsening, especially among vulnerable groups, sources report. Children are collapsing everywhere, and rumors of starvation are spreading. In Pyongsong, South Pyongan Province, a teenage student was caught stealing grain from a grain store and arrested. The student's face was reportedly swollen from malnutrition. While aid was delivered to the student's home with corn, beans, and rice, residents sighed, asking," How much longer can he hold out?" According to another report, in Wonsan, Kangwon Province, rumors are spreading that rural children are suffering from hunger and malnutrition and are on the verge of starvation. In some areas, a weekly" lunchbox sharing campaign" has been held, mobilizing groups such as the Women's League(Socialist Women's League of Korea). However, the source reported that Women's League members are complaining," We are having a hard time too." As food prices soared, the authorities imposed price ceilings and restricted market sales, but this only fueled black market trading, leading to further price increases, creating a vicious cycle. A source in South Pyongan Province criticized," The state always says ‘ food is the top priority, ’ but supply is concentrated in Pyongyang and the privileged class, so there is a huge gap between policy and reality." A source in Gangwon Province also pointed out," The party’s slogans are merely propaganda and have nothing to do with improving the lives of residents."

It has been reported that the North Korean Army General Staff conducted a mock tactical training assuming the first week of developments after the outbreak of war on the Korean Peninsula and reported the results to the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea. This mock tactical training was conducted for a week starting at 8:00 PM on August 17th under the supervision of the Combat Training Bureau of the General Staff Department. As the South Korean and US military authorities have been conducting the ' Ulchi Freedom Shield ' joint exercise, which includes a mock command post training, since the 18th of last month, it is understood that the North Korean military also conducted its own mock command post tactical training. This training set the scenario of the first week after the outbreak of war on the Korean Peninsula and quantified variables by operational areas such as land, sea, and air, as well as air superiority, sea superiority, missile defense, infiltration and precision strike, and sustainment capabilities, and reflected them in the report. The actual report summarized the developments in the following order : ▲ Loss of air and sea superiority on the 1st and 2nd days of the war ▲ Launch and interception of some missiles by the Strategic Forces on the 3rd and 4th days ▲ Infiltration attempts by the Army and Special Warfare Forces on the 5th and 6th days ▲ Seizing of overall initiative on the 7th day. The conclusion also included that it would be difficult for the North Korean military to avoid being inferior in the early stages. Based on this, the North Korean General Staff Department plans to prepare countermeasures for each service and branch and reflect them in the winter training that begins on December 1st.

Kim Jong-un visited China for the first time in six years and eight months. This is particularly noteworthy as it is his debut on the stage of multilateral summit diplomacy, but there is talk within North Korea that this is the ' prelude ' to a bloody review targeting the judiciary, security, and security agencies. A source said," After Chairman Kim 's visit to a foreign country, the judiciary, security, and security agencies are inevitably summoned to a central party review meeting," adding," Even during the last four visits to China, the reviews were ruthless, and when omissions in reports or cover-ups of incidents were revealed, even for minor issues as usual, the relevant officials were mercilessly dismissed(removed from their positions) and punished." Immediately after Kim Jong - un's first visit to China in March 2018, four high-ranking officials of the Ministry of State Security were dismissed for concealing and delaying reporting on mass starvation in political prison camps. After his second visit to China in May, a report was raised that the Central Prosecutors' Office had handled corruption cases involving executives of trading companies lightly, leading to a series of replacements of prosecutors' offices. Immediately after Kim Jong-un's third visit to China in June, several officials of the Central Court were punished for concealing the illicit accumulation of wealth and personal corruption of a foreign currency-earning gold mine under its jurisdiction. During Kim Jong-un's fourth visit to China in January 2019, security officials who held a drinking party on a fellow official's birthday were also purged and demoted one after another. The source said that Kim Jong-un's diplomatic visit to China is followed by large-scale censure, punishment, and purges, so now is the time for officials to be very vigilant.
