It is reported that the Pyongyang City Ministry of State Security (Bo Wi Bu) sparked public discontent by launching surprise inspections of electronic devices during the nationwide rice planting mobilization period without prior notice. These inspections targeted not only residential households but also factories and enterprises. The stated purpose was to verify the accuracy of previously reported electronic device registrations, which were supposed to be completed by the end of April.
However, the inspection went beyond merely checking for registration stickers. Specialized personnel known as “technical teams,” experts in data recovery, opened up the internal storage of laptops and tablets to examine viewing and listening records. The district with the highest number of violations was Jung District, accounting for about 25% of all detected cases, where people were caught possessing illegal videos or audio files such as South Korean pop songs, dance videos, dramas, or YouTube Shorts-style edited content.
Some households inspected during power outages couldn’t even power on their devices and were only checked for sticker attachment or sealing status. A source stated, “People say they are even more exhausted physically and mentally, as the inspection came when they were already unable to straighten their backs from rice planting,” adding that there is concern this might be an effort to weed out those with ‘impure thoughts.’

Among the 1,000 prisoners of war recently repatriated by Ukraine to Russia, it has been confirmed that two North Korean POWs were not included. On the 27th, Rep. Yoo Yong-won, a member of the National Assembly Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, stated, “According to Ukrainian sources, two North Korean soldiers, Mr. Ri and Mr. Baek, who were captured by the Ukrainian army, were excluded from the exchange list.” Ri and Baek were deployed to Russia and were captured by Ukrainian forces this past January.
Rep. Yoo added, “Another source said that their exclusion from the prisoner exchange is understood to be Ukraine’s response to a request from the South Korean government.” Previously, Russia and Ukraine agreed on a 1,000-person POW exchange during negotiations in Istanbul, Türkiye, on the 16th. From the 23rd, about 300 POWs were exchanged daily over three days.
Rep. Yoo visited Ukraine in February and interviewed Ri and Baek. In the released recording, Ri stated, “If I were to return to my homeland as a prisoner of war now, my parents would probably already be gone (executed).”

3. North Korea Earns $43.8 Million Monthly from Troop Dispatch… Even Receives Generous Death Compensation
On March 7, North Korea’s ruling party newspaper Rodong Sinmun reported that Chairman Kim Jong-un had visited an important operational training base of the Korean People’s Army in the western region the day before (March 6), inspecting the training facilities. ▶ ▶ Article Summary
It is estimated that North Korea earns about $43.8 million per month (approximately 60 billion KRW), totaling $525.6 million annually (around 730 billion KRW), by dispatching approximately 15,000 troops to Russia. Including death compensation for fallen soldiers, the regime may have earned up to an additional $6 million (around 8.2 billion KRW). This has led analysts to conclude that North Korea's strategy of "military-economy-centered foreign currency acquisition" is being solidified.
A source stated, “The lives of its people are merely tools, and war has become an industry for earning foreign currency.” He added, “In exchange, the state designates the families of fallen soldiers as national heroes, granting them priority in food rations, reallocation of housing, and other compensations. The plan is to keep all of this strictly secret from the outside world until all deployed soldiers return.”
North Korea is also engaging in arms exports alongside troop deployments. This deployment, however, is not only for economic benefit but also serves to boost Kim Jong-un’s image domestically. A source said, “Internal propaganda portrays the Marshal (Kim Jong-un) as leading a righteous anti-imperialist war as part of the North Korea–Russia alliance,” emphasizing that he is continuing the anti-imperialist legacy of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il, reinforcing the prestige of the 'Baekdu bloodline.'
