1. Nationwide ‘Children’s Union Cadres’ Convened for the First Time by Kim Jong-un’s Orders…“Prepared to Take Responsibility for Ideology and Spirit”
From March 26 to 29, the “National Training Session for Korean Children’s Union Leaders” was held in Pyongyang for the first time in history, according to a report by the Korean Central News Agency on the 31st.

Following a recent gathering of “People’s Unit Leaders” from across North Korea, the regime has, for the first time, summoned student leaders of the “Korean Children’s Union” nationwide to emphasize ideological indoctrination. The Korean Children’s Union, symbolized by red neckties, is an organization that all students aged 7 to 16 are required to join.
Although Kim Jong-un did not personally attend the training session, his remarks were delivered to the participants. Koo Byung-sam, spokesperson for South Korea’s Ministry of Unification, commented, “This appears to be an effort to strengthen ideological control over all classes of the population and to enhance loyalty.” Hong Min, a senior researcher at the Korea Institute for National Unification, noted, “Considering that soldiers sent to the war in Ukraine are between 17 and 24 years old — and that Children’s Union members are future military resources — ideological training is seen as necessary. It also seems intended to ensure that they are not swayed by outside information, such as details about troop deployments.”
In North Korea, citizens join the Korean Children’s Union at age 7, then the Socialist Patriotic Youth League at 17. By 18, they may join the Workers’ Party, and those who do not are required to participate in one of the following state-run mass organizations: the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, the Union of Agricultural Workers, or the Socialist Women’s Union. These organizations are seen as tools for controlling the population and mobilizing labor.

2. Construction Workers Mobilized for 10,000 Homes in Hwasong District Phase 3 Have Received 0 Wages for 3 Months
The North Korean Workers' Party official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on March 16 that Chairman Kim Jong-un conducted an on-site inspection on the 15th of the nearly completed Phase 3 construction site of 10,000 residential units in the Hwasong district.

Despite Kim Jong-un designating the Hwasong housing project as a national priority, it has been revealed that some military and civilian construction workers involved in the project have not received any wages for the first quarter of the year. Kim attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the third phase of the 10,000-home project in February last year, and during his recent site visit on March 15, he ordered the project to be completed by April 15, in time for the “Day of the Sun” (Kim Il-sung’s birthday).
A soldier in his 20s, identified only as Kim, said he worked every single day since January without receiving a single month’s wage by the end of March. The same applies not only to soldiers but also to some civilian construction workers. A man in his 30s, Lee, who came from the provinces as part of a shock brigade, said he goes to work at dawn and returns late at night, yet has no money to send to his wife and child back home — in fact, he is now having to ask his family for support just to survive.
A source reported, “Despite not being paid for three months since January, the workers at the construction site are continually reminded of their duty to obey orders under the motto, ‘If the Party decides, we do it.’” Workers forced into unpaid labor while sacrificing sleep are said to be in utter despair. Once again, housing construction touted as being “for the people” is resulting in the sacrifice of the people themselves.

3. After Sending Their Children to the Military, Families Are Ordered to Write ‘Support Letters’… Why?

▶ ▶ Article Summary
A source in North Hamgyong Province reported that last month, the local Party Committee instructed families with children serving in the military to write letters of encouragement, even providing specific content to include in the letters. This directive appears to be aimed at calming growing public anxiety among military families amid persistent rumors inside North Korea that troops have been deployed to foreign battlefields and that many soldiers have died.
Some families are trying to confirm whether their sons are alive by calling, sending letters through the postal service or messengers, but there have been troubling reports: some say the voice on the phone wasn’t their son’s, and others have received no replies at all. There are even claims that many of the replies that do come are actually written by the soldiers’ direct superiors, not the soldiers themselves. As a result, families with sons in the military are quoted as saying, “We can only rest easy if we hear our son’s real voice,” and they spend their days and nights filled with worry.
