1. UN Publishes North Korea Human Rights Report… “Warrantless Home Raids and Public Executions”
United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, Switzerland.
▶ ▶ Article Summary
On the 5th, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) released a report on human rights violations in North Korea. The report pointed out inhumane treatment in detention facilities, violations of freedom of expression, and food shortages, urging the North Korean regime to take action. Covering the period from November 1, 2022, to October 31, 2024, the report includes testimonies from 175 North Korean defectors on issues such as enforced disappearances and abductions, forced labor of North Korean workers dispatched abroad, and cases of human trafficking of women.
More than half of the respondents had experienced human rights abuses in detention facilities. Regarding freedom of expression, testimonies indicated that censorship by the Ministry of State Security’s "Group 109 Task Force" has intensified in recent years. The task force was reported to frequently eavesdrop on phone calls and electronic devices, conduct warrantless home raids, and confiscate unauthorized videos, USB drives, radios, and publications, leading to arrests.
Testimonies further revealed that those caught in the task force's inspections were subjected to beatings, verbal abuse, and public trials, with extreme cases resulting in public executions. Defectors stated that North Korea’s food distribution system had completely collapsed, and food shortages were one of the main reasons for defection. The demographics and routes of defectors have also changed; whereas most defectors before COVID-19 were trafficked women, in recent years, the number of men dispatched as overseas workers has increased.

"Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter." (Proverbs 24:11)
○ On the 5th, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights released a report urging the North Korean regime to take immediate action regarding severe human rights violations, including inhumane treatment in detention facilities, suppression of freedom of expression, and food shortages. Lord, as this report is submitted to the 58th UN Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva on the 24th, may it lead to effective measures that pressure North Korea’s murderous dictatorship.
○ May the South Korean government, the UN and its member states, and civil society organizations work together to continuously expose North Korea’s human rights violations and take strong international measures against countries that collaborate in North Korea’s crimes against humanity, strengthening international cooperation and security strategies.
○ Lord, may the unification of Korea under a free and democratic gospel come swiftly, so that our North Korean brothers and sisters will no longer suffer under the oppressive three-generation dictatorship of Kim Jong-un, but instead live blessed lives of freedom, liberation, worship, and mission.

The accuracy of North Korean ballistic missiles used by Russia in its attacks on Ukraine has recently improved significantly. Experts suggest that Russia may have provided North Korea with key components to enhance missile precision.
Reuters, citing two senior Ukrainian sources, reported that “since late December last year, North Korean ballistic missiles launched by Russian forces toward Ukraine have become much more precise.” According to Ukrainian sources, Russia began firing North Korean short-range ballistic missiles in late 2023 and has since used about 100 of them. Until February last year, Ukraine claimed that “more than half of the North Korean missiles were defective,” but within less than a year, the accuracy of North Korean missiles has surged dramatically.
Il-woo Lee, secretary-general of the Korea Defense Network, stated that while North Korean ballistic missile accuracy has improved, it still lags behind South Korea’s Hyunmoo-2 missile. However, he warned that if North Korea mounts nuclear warheads on these missiles, they could pose a significant threat.

"Then I said to you, ‘Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, and in the wilderness. There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.’" (Deuteronomy 1:29, 33)
○ Experts have pointed out that North Korea’s ballistic missile accuracy has significantly improved, and there are suspicions that Russia may have provided key components. Lord, may the illegal military cooperation between North Korea and Russia come to an end, and may further arms transactions and the dispatch of additional North Korean troops be prevented.
○ With North Korean missile accuracy increasing sharply, there are warnings that equipping them with nuclear warheads could pose a great threat. Lord, strengthen the ROK-U.S. alliance and trilateral security cooperation between South Korea, the U.S., and Japan to reinforce policies against North Korea. Oversee the international situation surrounding the Korean Peninsula and personally protect and safeguard our nation’s defense and security.
3. North Korea Confirms First Revision of ‘Korean Peninsula Map’ Reflecting ‘Two-State Theory’

It has been confirmed for the first time that North Korea has modified its map of the Korean Peninsula to reflect the "Two-State Theory" regarding North and South Korea. According to China’s social media platform Xiaohongshu on the 5th, a Chinese individual who introduced themselves as studying the Korean language posted a photo of a "Joseon Map" labeled as printed by the North Korean Mapping Publishing House.
In the photo, the southern part of the "Joseon Map" appears faded in gray and is labeled only as "South Korea." North Korea has referred to South Korea as "South Korea" in official documents only since its declaration of the "Two-State Theory." According to photos posted in domestic online communities, earlier versions of the "Joseon Map" from 2012 and 2018 included administrative divisions of South Korea. When islands were included, the southernmost point was labeled as "Southern tip of Marado, Seogwipo City, Jeju Island," and the easternmost point as "Eastern tip of Dokdo, Ulleung County, North Gyeongsang Province." The lengths of the peninsula from east to west and north to south were also marked. However, in the newly released map, all such descriptions have been removed.
Additionally, while previous maps included instructions from Kim Jong-il, the new version has replaced them with instructions from Kim Jong-un. It is speculated that this revision follows Kim Jong-un’s declaration at the Supreme People’s Assembly in January last year, where he announced the removal of unification terminology and the introduction of new territorial clauses formalizing an "antagonistic two-state relationship."
Furthermore, the replacement of Juche-era notations with Kim Jong-un’s teachings is interpreted as an extension of efforts to strengthen his independent ideological rule, moving away from "Kim Il-sung-Kim Jong-il-ism."

"They set up kings without my consent; they choose princes without my approval. With their silver and gold they make idols for themselves to their own destruction." (Hosea 8:4)
○ Following Kim Jong-un’s declaration of an "antagonistic two-state relationship" in January last year, North Korea has now revised its national map, labeling South Korea only as "South Korea" and deleting all regional names. Lord, may the murderous hereditary dictatorship of Kim Jong-un, which unsettles the hearts of separated families and all North and South Korean people by redefining their inseparable blood ties as hostility, come to a swift and peaceful end.
○ May righteous leaders and a government that fears God, respects the lives and human rights of its people, and prioritizes the well-being of its citizens be established in North Korea.
○ May our government establish and implement a unification policy based on liberal democracy to hasten the unification that will bring freedom to our North Korean brethren. As North Korea tries to erase unification, may the Korean church and believers all the more remember the oppressed people of the North and fervently pray for a gospel-based unification rooted in freedom and democracy.
