O Some North Korean residents reportedly envied the free election culture in the U.S., where leaders are chosen by the will of the people, unlike in North Korea. May the gospel be freely spread in North Korea, just as it has been in the U.S. and South Korea, which were founded on Christian values. Pray that North Korean citizens may recognize freedom and inherent human rights through the truth of the gospel. May the South and the North work together toward a gospel-centered reunification, building a unified Korea dedicated to missionary work.

2. North Korea Stands Before UN Human Rights Review... Government Criticizes 'Deployment of North Korean Soldiers'

O North Korea’s dictatorship causes severe human rights abuses by illegally developing weapons of mass destruction and extreme militarization. Lord, have mercy on the North Korean soldiers deployed to Russia by the regime; protect their lives, health, and safety, and open a path for them to hear the gospel and receive salvation in a third country.

O May North Korean authorities respond humanely to the issue of abductees and repeal the so-called “three evil laws” implemented since 2020, including the Anti-Reactionary Thought Law and the Pyongyang Cultural Language Protection Act.

O May North Korea take steps to address the concerns raised in the UN’s Universal Periodic Review. Through continued efforts by the UN, the international community, and the South Korean government, may the North Korean government guarantee religious freedom, prohibit forced labor, and join international human rights agreements to protect the rights of its citizens.

3. International Mock Trial on Crimes Against Humanity in North Korean Political Prison Camps to be Held by Hanbyun, North Korean Human Rights Organizations

In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the 2014 United Nations Commission of Inquiry (COI) report on North Korean human rights, an “International Mock Trial on Crimes Against Humanity in North Korean Political Prison Camps” will be held at the Seoul Press Center on the 25th and 26th. This event aims to highlight the international community's demand to hold Kim Jong-un criminally accountable. The trial is co-hosted by North Korean Human Rights, the Association for a Successful Reunification (Seongtong Mansha), Lawyers for Human Rights and Reunification of Korea (Hanbyun), All In One Korea, the North Korean Human Rights Committee, and the North Korea Freedom Coalition, with support from the Ministry of Unification, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Korean Bar Association, Human Rights Foundation, Seoul Bar Association, and Law Times. The mock trial panel includes Sylvia Rose Cartwright, former judge of the Cambodian Special Tribunal and Chair of the International Jurists Committee, Ju Kwang-gil, former Vice President of the World Ombudsman Association, and Martin Karopkin, former judge of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia. The prosecution team includes Jared Genser, CEO of Perseus Strategies, attorney Brian Tronic, Lee Young-hyun, the first North Korean defector-turned-lawyer, and New York attorney Kim Hyun-ki. Representing Kim Jong-un will be human rights attorneys James Connell and Marshall Amir. Kim Tae-hoon, Chairman of North Korean Human Rights, expressed hope that this event will set a new milestone for the improvement of human rights in North Korea.

O Pray that the National Assembly cooperates in appointing board members to launch the North Korean Human Rights Foundation promptly under the North Korean Human Rights Act. May our government establish and actively pursue appropriate unification policies. May textbooks honestly address North Korea's horrific human rights situation, and may students receive unification education that emphasizes this issue as a matter of conscience, morality, and historical duty.
