Article Summary
A 'Press Conference Against the Forced Repatriation of North Korean Refugees by the Chinese Government' was held on October 31st in front of the Chinese Embassy, organized by the 'National Coalition Against the Forced Repatriation of North Korean Defectors.' Speeches were given by Co-Representatives Kim Jeong-ae (National Movement for the Truth of Forced Repatriation), Jeon Maria (North Korea Human Rights and Unification Coalition), and Mrs. Lee Sun-hee (North Korean Defectors' Freedom Coalition).
In the statement, they emphasized that "the forced repatriation of North Korean defectors is an act of human rights violation that infringes on basic human rights," and urged, "The Chinese government must stop aligning itself with the North Korean regime's acts of human rights obliteration." North Korean defectors forcibly returned face severe human rights abuses such as brutal torture, sexual violence, forced abortions without anesthesia, forced labor, and execution. In a report published in September, the United Nations Secretariat highlighted that human rights abuses by the North Korean regime are horrific crimes against humanity unseen in contemporary society.
The statement included strong demands such as:
- "The Chinese government must apologize to the world for the crimes of inhumane forced repatriation!"
- "Stop the forced repatriation and allow the defectors to go to the country of their choice!"
- "Respect the human rights of North Korean defectors in China and guarantee their refugee status as per UN protocols!"
- "As a member of the UN Human Rights Council, exert influence on the North Korean regime to improve human rights for its citizens!"
- "If the Chinese government does not accept these human rights improvements, it should resign from its position as a UN Human Rights Council member and permanent member of the UN Security Council!"

2. North Korean Workers, Unpaid and Insulted, Express ‘Outrage’

Article Summary
It has been reported that North Korean workers dispatched to Russia are expressing their grievances over unpaid wages and disparaging treatment from local Russian companies. Three work teams made up of North Korean laborers participated in the construction of a complex building in Tyumen, Russia, over the past four months. One remaining team of 15 workers completed the project on October 18th. However, the Russian construction company delayed the payment of their final wages, forcing the workers to withdraw without receiving full compensation. Some Russians even made contemptuous remarks, saying, “In a country where soldiers are sent to war just to earn money because of dire poverty, you should endure this,” which deeply humiliated the North Korean workers. This is not the first instance where Russian construction firms delayed or completely defaulted on payments, known colloquially as ‘disappearing without paying.’ Recently, due to reports of North Korean troops being dispatched to Russia, some Russians have even mockingly referred to the workers as “poor Koreans,” exacerbating their sense of indignity. Despite this situation, the North Korean construction company in Tyumen is urging the angry workers to avoid any physical altercations or incidents that could escalate into a diplomatic issue, advising them to wait patiently.

Prayer Topics
“The Lord… executes justice for the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free.” (Psalm 146:6-7)
○ Pray for the North Korean workers who have been dispatched to Russian construction companies, as they face unpaid wages and humiliation from local Russians for being from a poor country. Lord, have mercy on these North Korean laborers who are exploited and subjected to mistreatment without any protection from their own state.
○ Lord, we pray for a swift unification of the North and South under the gospel of freedom and democracy so that the North Korean people may enjoy freedom and human rights, and their livelihoods, including basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter, are met.
○ Reports indicate that Ukraine is conducting psychological operations encouraging North Korean troops dispatched to Russia to defect. Lord, have compassion on these North Korean soldiers, protect their lives and well-being, and open the way for them to hear the Gospel and be saved.
3. “Claims of ‘$70,000-$80,000 New Rural Homes’… Farmworkers Sneer Behind Their Backs”
▲ On 7th, North Korea’s official newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported, “In the third year of implementing our Party’s new rural revolution program, 41,600 households in 141 cities and counties have moved into new homes this year.” / Photo = Rodong Sinmun, News1
Article Summary
It has been reported that North Korean authorities are promoting rural housing construction projects as a “new era of rural revitalization” and exaggerating the value of these homes to residents. According to a source from South Hwanghae Province, farmworkers at a farm in Buksong County have been studying documents with Kim Jong-un’s remarks attached during daily morning roll calls. These documents reportedly claim, “The houses built by our Party for ordinary farmworkers would be worth about $70,000 in Russia and $80,000 in Japan.” However, farmworkers are bewildered by the idea that houses made with minimal materials could be valued so highly.
Housing demand in North Korea is typically concentrated in urban areas, where home prices range from $2,000 to $20,000 depending on location and conditions, while rural homes often cost less than $1,000. Farmworkers expressed frustration, saying, “At the housewarming events, everyone kept saying things like, ‘We, who have done nothing for the country, are now moving into new homes thanks to the Party’s care,’ which is tiresome and irritating,” and “Why do they say we have done nothing? We work year-round in conditions no different from unpaid labor.” They scoffed at being told daily that their homes are like “modern palaces,” while basic amenities such as water, electricity, and heating are lacking.

Prayer Topics
“Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” (Psalm 82:4)
○ Pray for an end to the idolization propaganda of Kim Jong-un’s three-generation dictatorship, where the regime boasts about providing high-value homes while building only modest mud houses for farmworkers. May the Kim Il-sung Juche ideology and the idolization of the Kim family come to a swift end in North Korea.
○ Pray for new leaders and a government to be established in North Korea that respects the lives and human rights of its people, prioritizing their basic needs, including food, clothing, and shelter.
○ The cold season is approaching. Pray for mercy on the impoverished North Korean people who live in homes without proper water, electricity, or heating. May the Lord provide daily bread and protect their lives and health through the harsh winter.
