Oct week1 Prayer for North Korea
1.Promotion of "Medical Robot Introduction" in Drug-Deficient Pharmacies in North Korea

In Pyongyang's Moranbong District General Pharmacy, a robot has been introduced to provide 24-hour medical service. (Source: ‘My Country’ website)
▶ Article Summary:
North Korea claims to be improving its healthcare system by establishing standard pharmacies in cities and counties and even introducing robots. However, there are doubts as to whether the pharmacies actually stock the necessary medicines for the population. According to North Korea's propaganda media, My Country, these standard pharmacies are equipped with manufacturing rooms, testing rooms, and consultation rooms, all outfitted with state-of-the-art technology to provide scientific testing and diagnosis. They also mention the introduction of robots for 24-hour medical service, which can assist by surveying patients’ health conditions or providing simple medical knowledge. Despite the propaganda about utilizing advanced technology to raise healthcare standards, it is uncertain whether this will have any real impact on the population, especially given the unresolved issue of medicine shortages.
According to North Korean defectors, most pharmacies in the country are locked, forcing people to buy medicine in black markets, and they suspect that the situation has only worsened. A resident source from Rason City reported that while the newly opened standard pharmacies are stocked with herbal medicines that people rarely seek, basic drugs like fever reducers and digestive aids quickly ran out within a few days.

Prayer Requests:
"For He will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help." (Psalm 72:13)
O The North Korean dictatorship is introducing modern medical robots as a showpiece for propaganda, rather than supplying the essential medicines that residents need to address their health issues. Lord, please have mercy on the North Korean people who are forced to rely on dangerous folk remedies or even drugs in the absence of proper medication during medical emergencies. May You, the Lord of life, protect the lives and health of our brothers and sisters in the North.
O We pray for the establishment of leaders and governments in North Korea who will prioritize the well-being of the people, expand healthcare facilities, and ensure a steady supply of medicines, while placing the lives and health of the population above all else.
2. Blinken: "The Security Council Must Respond to Strengthened North Korea-Russia Military Cooperation"

On the 24th, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, a high-level official meeting of the UN Security Council was held regarding Ukraine.
▶ Article Summary:
During a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council on Ukraine, held on September 24th, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the need for the Council to discuss ways to end President Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine and take action against the growing military cooperation between North Korea and Russia. Blinken stated that North Korea has supplied Russia with ballistic missiles, launchers, and millions of rounds of ammunition via train. South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul also pointed out that Russia’s attacks using North Korean ballistic missiles have become more frequent and intense. The North Korea-Russia military cooperation is a violation of numerous UN Security Council resolutions and poses a threat to peace and security on both the Korean Peninsula and in Europe. Furthermore, criticism has arisen over Russia, a permanent member of the Security Council and a founding nation of the non-proliferation regime, violating these resolutions by engaging in arms trade with North Korea. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, speaking at the meeting, highlighted that weapons provided by North Korea and Iran are killing Ukrainians and aiding Russia in its theft of Ukrainian land.

Prayer Requests:
"All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give all of you into our hands." (1 Samuel 17:47)
OPray that clear actions will be taken by the UN Security Council against the North Korea-Russia military alliance, which has violated Security Council resolutions. May all illegal collaborations and plans between North Korea and Russia be thwarted, and may the war between Russia and Ukraine come to a swift end, preventing further innocent casualties.
OMay the international community stand united in raising a stronger voice concerning North Korea’s human rights issues and denuclearization. We also pray that a suitable president will be elected in the upcoming U.S. election in November, someone who will be used by the Lord to achieve the reunification of the Korean Peninsula under the gospel and bring salvation to North Korea.
3. North Korean Defector Youth Schools Viewed as “Unwelcome” Instead of “Welcomed”

On September 12, at the alternative school for North Korean defectors, Yeomyung School, located in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, a wall displayed messages written by students about unification, such as "I want to build a school when unification comes" and "I want to create a country where everyone is happy."
▶ Article Summary:
Yeomyung School, which celebrates its 20th anniversary on the 27th, was established by 23 churches in a commercial building in Bongcheon-dong, Seoul, to support North Korean defector youth who struggle to adapt to regular schools due to language and cultural barriers. The school has relocated twice, most recently moving to a former elementary school building in Gangseo-gu, where it has been temporarily based since August last year. By February 2026, the school will have to vacate the premises due to opposition from some local residents who fear it will negatively affect property values, as well as plans for a different institution to occupy the site. The school is currently uncertain about where it will move next. Yeomyung School is the only middle and high school for North Korean defector youth officially recognized by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. If it relocates outside of Seoul, the accreditation may be revoked, leaving the school in a difficult position.
Despite its vital role in helping North Korean defectors adapt to South Korean society, Yeomyung School faces the challenge of being viewed by some as an undesirable facility. The school has successfully produced graduates who have passed teacher certification exams and become nurses, and there have been no reports of crimes committed by its students. It is hoped that the negative perception held by some residents will change, and that the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and local governments will take more active measures to support the school.

Prayer Requests:
"For the Lord your God... shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt." (Deuteronomy 10:17–19)
O Lord, we repent for failing to properly serve North Korean defectors who have come to this land, allowing them to be subjected to discrimination and isolation. May the unjust prejudices of local residents against North Korean defectors be broken, so that Yeomyung School, the alternative school for North Korean defector youth, can settle in one place and establish deep roots without needing to move again.
O May the awareness of North Korean defectors, who are often seen as “unification pioneers,” improve among the citizens of our country. Please prepare education facilities for North Korean defector youth, helping them overcome trauma and cultural differences, so they can confidently live as part of South Korean society and be instrumental in the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula through the gospel.
O Raise up many Christian teachers, prayer warriors, and supporters who will lovingly serve and nurture North Korean defector youth in truth and love. May the Korean Church serve these youth with love and prayer.
