Prayer Points:
“I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols” (Isaiah 42:8).
ᅬ North Korea declared the beginning of the "Great Kim Jong-un Era" in May and unveiled a new portrait badge featuring only Kim Jong-un's face in June. Last month, the study of "Kim Jong-un's Revolutionary Thought" began for party members and workers. Lord, have mercy on the North Korean people who have been brainwashed by 79 years of false propaganda and forced into the sin of human idol worship without hearing the Gospel.
ᅬ May the pseudo-religion of Kim Il-sung’s Juche ideology, the idolization of the Kim family, and the three-generation dictatorship, which oppose God, quickly come to an end in North Korea.
ᅬ May the Gospel-based unification of the Korean Peninsula be swiftly achieved, so that our fellow North Koreans can enjoy the freedom to hear the Gospel and experience liberation.
2. Large 'Tent Villages' Still Found in North Korea's Flooded Areas, Suggesting Slow Recovery

These areas are presumed to be tent villages for flood victims, and they appeared unchanged in images taken on August 30. Photo by Planet Labs.
A month has passed since the floods hit North Korea, yet large tent villages for flood victims remain in areas like North Pyongan Province and Jagang Province, indicating that recovery efforts are progressing slowly. Previously, Kim Jong-un publicly condemned South Korean media reports that estimated the number of dead and missing from the flood at 1,000 to 1,500 people. In response, Koo Byung-sam, a spokesperson for South Korea's Ministry of Unification, suggested that this severe flood has led to widespread unrest, which the North Korean leadership is attempting to blame on external forces. Despite offers of flood recovery aid from the international community, North Korea has refused all assistance, instead expressing a determination to resolve the crisis independently. Sung-hak Jung, head of the Video Analysis Center at the Korea Institute for National Security Strategy, stated that the focus should not be on the leader's dignity but on the survival of the people, emphasizing that it is the leader’s duty to accept international aid to alleviate hunger and suffering. On August 1, a U.S. State Department spokesperson expressed hope that North Korea would soon allow the return of international humanitarian workers to assist in flood recovery.

Prayer Points:
Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked." (Psalm 82:4)
ᅬ Lord, have mercy on the residents of North Korea who are still living in tent villages and struggling due to the flood damage. We pray for the swift completion of recovery efforts and that daily food needs will be provided to the hungry. Please protect the health of the elderly and children, and comfort the families who have lost loved ones in the flood.
ᅬ May the North Korean authorities acknowledge the limitations of self-reliance in addressing this disaster and accept humanitarian aid from the international community. We pray that the flood victims will endure this difficult time and that the North Korean government will prepare long-term measures to prevent future flood-related threats to the survival of its people.
ᅬ Lord, raise up leaders and a government in North Korea that values the lives and human rights of its citizens, prioritizing their basic needs such as food, shelter, and well-being. May they also take fundamental measures to protect vulnerable areas from recurring flood damage, such as reforesting barren mountains prone to landslides during the rainy season.
3. Former COI Chair Michael Kirby: 'North Korean Human Rights Deteriorating... Must Be Actively Addressed at the UN General Assembly and Security Council'
Michael Kirby, former Chair of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry (COI) on Human Rights in North Korea.
On August 29, Michael Kirby, the former Chair of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry (COI) on Human Rights in North Korea, emphasized the need for the UN General Assembly and Security Council to take more active measures against North Korea's human rights violations and its growing nuclear and missile threats. Despite it being the 10th anniversary of the COI's North Korean human rights report, the human rights situation in North Korea has worsened, and the country's nuclear and missile threats to the international community have increased. Kirby stated that during the recent "2024 International Dialogue on North Korean Human Rights" in Washington, D.C., experts agreed that accountability is urgently needed, especially given the decade that has passed since the COI report was released. He pointed out that Kim Jong-un appears to have re-established a centrally controlled economic system reminiscent of the Cold War era, where the population is forced into obedience out of fear and is entirely dependent on the state for survival. Kirby also remarked, "His nuclear threat is a human rights threat," and urged UN member states to request additional briefings from the UN Secretary-General and relevant UN agencies on the humanitarian crisis and the connection between human rights abuses and North Korea's weapons programs. He concluded by stating that a strong resolution from the UN General Assembly would be the first step.

Prayer Points:
"Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter." (Proverbs 24:11)
ᅬ It has been 10 years since the COI's North Korean human rights report was published, yet evaluations indicate that human rights in North Korea have regressed. We pray that UN member states will actively address North Korea's issues in the UN General Assembly and Security Council, including requesting additional briefings on the link between North Korea's weapons programs and human rights abuses.
ᅬ We pray that, as experts have pointed out, there will be clear accountability for the crimes of human rights violations in North Korea, leading to tangible improvements in the human rights situation there.
ᅬ Lord, we ask that the 22nd National Assembly of South Korea swiftly completes the appointment of the Board of Directors for the North Korean Human Rights Foundation and the 2nd Advisory Committee for the Promotion of North Korean Human Rights, ensuring the proper implementation of the North Korean Human Rights Act. May the South Korean people, regardless of political stance, unite in a just and righteous voice against the tragic human rights violations being suffered by their fellow Koreans.
