1. Plight of North Korean Women Escaping to China: Physical Abuse by Chinese Cohabitants Goes Unreported
▶ ▶ Article Summary:
A North Korean woman in her 50s, residing in Hebei Province, China, suffered brain damage from assault by her Chinese cohabitant in January. As a result, she developed cognitive impairment as a lingering effect, evoking sympathy from surrounding North Korean defectors, according to local sources in China. The woman had reportedly been subjected to repeated abuse by her Chinese cohabitant and attempted to escape, only to be caught and assaulted even more severely. Consequently, she now struggles to recognize people and behaves erratically, akin to a mentally impaired individual. When a North Korean defector reported the incident to the local police station, they were told, "We cannot accept reports from individuals without proper status. Live quietly." Expressing anger and injustice, the defector remarked, "The thought that no one will be punished even if they beat and kill North Korean defectors shattered my soul." Additionally, there have been numerous grim cases reported. While instances of North Korean women being assaulted by their Chinese cohabitants were not uncommon before, the atmosphere used to discourage severe violence for fear of the defectors fleeing. However, with the current difficulty in reaching South Korea and the risk of being repatriated if caught, Chinese men are more inclined to exercise violence against North Korean women, viewing them as powerless prey, the source revealed.

▶ ▶Prayer Points
"Remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering." (Hebrews 13:3)
○ North Korean women who have been sold as wives or daughters-in-law to Chinese families are being subjected to abuse and lives resembling slavery by their Chinese husbands and families. Have compassion on these unfortunate North Korean women and protect their lives, health, and spirits. May the Chinese government guarantee status to the married North Korean women and put an end to the abuse by Chinese individuals.
○ May China adhere to the UN Convention against Torture and cease the forced repatriation of North Korean defectors. Grant freedom to the more than 2,000 North Korean defectors currently detained in Chinese prisons and ensure that our North Korean compatriots on Chinese soil will no longer suffer humiliation, indignity, and human rights violations.
○ May the massive prison called North Korea crumble swiftly. Bring an end to the three-generation hereditary dictatorship in North Korea, the deification and idolization of the Kim Il-sung dynasty, and the system of worship.
2. US Expert: South Korea and US Should Negotiate Arms Control to Reduce North Korean Tactical Nuclear Weapons

▶ ▶ Article Summary
A US expert has argued that rather than enhancing North Korea's deterrence capabilities to reduce the security risks on the Korean Peninsula, South Korea and the United States should focus on negotiating arms control to reduce North Korea's tactical nuclear weapons. Adam Mount, a senior fellow at the Federation of American Scientists (FAS), stated, "The South Korea-US alliance needs a strategy to peacefully coexist with a nuclear-armed North Korea." He claimed that unlike the US-Soviet Union and US-China relations, where both sides balanced their nuclear capabilities, North Korea's nuclear capacity significantly lags behind the United States, making it likely that North Korea would consider using nuclear weapons first in a crisis situation. Mount argued that the military posture of the South Korea-US alliance exceeds the level necessary for deterrence and unnecessarily raises the risk of North Korea using nuclear weapons. In a report published in 2019, the International Study Group on North Korea Policy, in which FAS participated, suggested that South Korea and the US should formulate a new strategy focusing on arms control and confidence-building measures to reduce threats. A senior advisor at the Miller Center-Hoover National Security Council, who participated in the report, mentioned considering intermediate measures in the process towards complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

"For by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory." (Proverbs 24:6)
○ Lord, enable South Korea and the United States to establish strategic principles for nuclear negotiations with North Korea to deter provocations and strengthen international security, ultimately leading to North Korea's denuclearization.
○ Grant insights and strategies to officials to implement strategic intermediate measures for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
○ Lord, as permanent members of the UN Security Council, may China and Russia perceive the North Korean nuclear issue not as a confrontation with the United States but as a cooperative task for global peace, contributing to denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula and international security.
3. "Vivid Testimonies of North Korean Defectors Recorded"‥Opening of North Korean Human Rights Museum
▶ ▶ Article Summary:
A North Korean Human Rights Museum, where one can catch a glimpse of the reality of North Korea's oppression and control, recently opened its doors with the support of the government and citizens. It is the first museum created by a North Korean human rights organization. Visitors can directly experience the lives of North Korean residents by examining vivid testimonies from defectors and transcripts of conversations with locals in North Korea. Exhibits include items such as Bibles smuggled into the North under disguise, hand-crank flashlights used for self-generation due to electricity shortages, radios, CDs, USBs, SD cards, as well as notebooks capable of picking up radio and TV broadcasts. Additionally, publications and reports related to North Korea, personal writings by defectors, and artworks by various defector artists are displayed in the museum. Speakers installed on one side of the wall shake the blank sheets in the air not with sound but with movements resembling heartbeats, symbolically depicting the reality of North Korea. The North Korean Human Rights Museum tells us stories about peace and reunification.
