1. CIA Reveals 'Up to 13 Years of Service' for North Korean Special Forces... 9 Times Longer than Active Duty Soldiers in South Korea
▶ ▶ Article Summary:
The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has disclosed that the service period for North Korean special forces handling missiles and more can extend up to 13 years. This is nearly 9 times longer than the active-duty service period of 18 months for South Korean Army soldiers, regardless of their military occupation. If one joins the strategic forces at the age of 17, it means spending the entire youth in the military until reaching the age of 30. Former North Korean Labor Party Secretary Hwang Jang-yeop once likened North Korean soldiers to modern-day slaves during a past lecture in Washington. He stated, "The military crushes the bones of resentment. They go out for 10 to 13 years, practicing to die for Kim Jong-il, and when that ends, they are sent to mines or forced to live that life again. It ruins their entire lives. There is no greater human rights violation than this." It is also noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the border security in the North China border area has been strengthened. New barbed wire fences, walls, and surveillance posts have been installed or upgraded along hundreds of kilometers of the border. The North Korean regime's strengthening of border security during the pandemic has been consistently observed through satellite images. This is interpreted as an intention to prevent defections by North Korean residents.

▶ ▶Prayer Points
"Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise," says the LORD; "I will place him in the safety for which he longs." (Psalm 12:5)
○ We pray for mercy for the young soldiers in North Korea who endure slavery, sacrificing their youth for the oppressive regime. May the swift realization of freedom, democracy, and the gospel bring about unification, allowing the youth in North Korea to freely pursue their dreams and enjoy the precious life that God has given.
○ Instead of reinforcing border barriers and surveillance posts to prevent defections, we pray for the emergence of normal and conscientious leaders and authorities in North Korea who genuinely care for the well-being and human rights of the residents. May they lead the country towards a swift transition to freedom and democracy, where the people do not feel the need to defect.
2. North Korea Conducts Two Consecutive Coastal Artillery Firings in the West Sea... Over 60 Shots Near Yeonpyeong Island Northwest
▶ ▶ Article Summary
The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that North Korean forces conducted more than 60 artillery firings from the northwest of Yeonpyeong Island between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM on the 6th. This follows the previous day's firing of over 200 shots in the areas of Jangsan-got in the north of Baengnyeong Island and the north of Yeonpyeong Island. However, on both days, the impact points did not cross the Northern Limit Line (NLL) north of the NLL in the West Sea. While our military responded with nearly 400 shots in yesterday's firing, today, there was no counterfire. The Joint Chiefs strongly warned against North Korea's consecutive artillery firings within the prohibited hostile acts zone, emphasizing that it threatens the peace of the Korean Peninsula and increases tension. They urged North Korea to immediately cease such actions. Furthermore, if North Korea threatens our people through artillery fire, our military will take appropriate military measures. North Korea claims this is a response to South Korea's military exercises, and the possibility of further provocations remains high, as they have previously threatened an unprecedented level of powerful responses.

"Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright." (Psalm 20:7-8)
○ Amid Kim Jong-un's recent explicit display of hostility, stating that he no longer considers South Korea as a target for unification, North Korean forces have engaged in military provocations for the third consecutive day on the 7th. They fired over 90 shots from the north of Yeonpyeong Island for over an hour. May the Lord personally defend the security of South Korea, preventing innocent bloodshed due to North Korea's military provocations.
○ Despite the harsh cold and food shortages, the North Korean regime, focused on military provocations, neglects the livelihood of its people. Pray for the swift end of the oppressive three-generation hereditary dictatorship in North Korea.
○ As experts anticipate an increase in tension from North Korea leading up to the April 10th general election and the November 5th U.S. presidential election, pray for proactive and strategic preparations to counter various forms of provocations, including military, cyber, and psychological warfare. May North Korea's actions have no malicious impact on the April 10th election.
3. Spread of 'UN Pressure Moves' on North Korea and China Within the UN
▶ ▶ Article Summary:
Efforts to exert pressure on North Korea regarding nuclear, missile, and human rights issues are intensifying within the United Nations. France, which took over the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council in January, expressed its willingness to convene a meeting on North Korea-related issues in January. In the UN Human Rights Council, various organizations raised the issue of forced repatriation of North Korean defectors in preparation for the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on China. Nicolas de Rivière, the French Ambassador to the UN and current president of the UN Security Council, emphasized the need to expand the UN Security Council's traditional role focused on illegal activities such as North Korea's ballistic missile and nuclear proliferation. Interpretations suggest the need for UN Security Council-level discussions and pressure on North Korea's human rights issues. Meanwhile, ahead of the Universal Periodic Review on China scheduled for the 23rd, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women expressed concerns that China has become a destination for sexual exploitation and forced marriage of North Korean women and girls. They are classified as 'illegal immigrants' and forcibly repatriated. Additionally, UN treaty bodies, such as the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and the UN Refugee Agency, raised the issue of forced repatriation of North Korean defectors, urging improvements.

"Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter." (Proverbs 24:11)
○ We thank the UN human rights treaty bodies for raising concerns about China's forced repatriation of North Korean defectors. May our government participate in the upcoming regular human rights review of China on the 23rd, expressing condemnation for the forced repatriation of North Korean defectors. May China now comply with the principle of non-refoulement under the UN Convention Against Torture, ceasing forced repatriation of North Korean defectors.
○ Pray for the collapse of the Kim family's three-generation hereditary dictatorship, which opposes God in North Korea. May the idolatrous system of Kim Il-sung's Juche ideology and deification crumble, putting an end to three generations of the Kim family's oppressive rule. Let there be no more instances where our compatriots risk their lives to defect from this giant prison called North Korea, and where North Korean defectors in China face horrific torture through forced repatriation.
○ We thank the UN for South Korea's active role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council this year. Through this, may substantial improvements be brought to the human rights situation in North Korea, and may channels of communication be established with China and Russia for the rights of North Korean defectors and residents.
