Oct week3 Prayer Points for North Korea
1. "Hyesan City Schools Demand Students Provide Winter Fuel"
▶ ▶ Article Summary
On the 12th, sources from Yanggang Province reported that Hyesan City schools in North Korea are urging students to either provide winter fuel or an equivalent amount of money for heating. In North Korea, schools typically start preparing for winter heating at the end of September or early October. Students from rural areas often go to the mountains to collect firewood or gather branches, but in urban areas, they have limited options and frequently need to provide goods or money for heating. Sources revealed that schools are demanding approximately 130,000 North Korean won per student in cash, reflecting market prices for the firewood. Some schools have even held emergency parent meetings because of the difficulty some parents face in meeting this requirement. Some parents expressed their concerns and willingness to make sacrifices to ensure their children can study comfortably in heated classrooms. However, there are concerns that if schools cannot provide heating, students may be forced to halt their studies during the upcoming winter. Sources also noted that North Korea places a significant financial burden on its residents, and this situation highlights the struggles people face in the country.

"He will rescue the poor when they cry to him; he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them." - Psalm 72:12
○Let us pray to the Lord, the one who rescues the poor and helps the oppressed. Pray for the children in North Korea who are being pushed into child labor, collecting firewood in the mountains during the harsh winter for their schools' heating.
○Pray for a change in the situation in North Korea where they claim slogans like "We have nothing to envy in the world," while they can't even provide heating fuel for students during the winter.
○Pray that the three-generation oppressive regime led by Kim Jong-un, which squanders the country's finances on nuclear and missile development while failing to provide basic necessities, comes to an end.
○Pray for the establishment of a righteous government and leaders in North Korea who prioritize the well-being, educational rights, health, and happiness of their citizens.
○Pray that the gospel of freedom and democracy unification which God prepared is quickly fulfilled, allowing North Koreans to enjoy basic human rights, freedom, and prosperity, worship God together, and engage in missionary work.
2. "Tearful Representative Jang Sung-ho: 'The Only Sin Is Not Being Born in the Land of Freedom'"
▶ ▶ Article Summary
In light of the news that over 600 North Korean defectors were secretly sent back to North Korea on the 9th, the National Alliance of Citizens Against Forcible Repatriation of 2,600 North Korean Defectors held a condemning press conference near the Chinese Embassy on the 13th. The National Alliance includes various groups such as the National Movement for Investigating Human Rights Violations Against North Korean Defectors, the Association of Righteous Professors for Education, and the Esther Prayer Movement. More human rights activists gathered than during previous protests. Jang Sung-ho, a lawmaker from the People's Power Party and a North Korean defector who participated in the event, said, "I understand all too well the situation they will face when they are sent back to North Korea." He emphasized that the defectors wish to come to South Korea under the government of their choice, which is the Yoon Suk-yeol government, and the Ministry of Unification. He questioned how China responded to this. He also said, "China's recent actions are absolutely unacceptable. They have crossed the line." Jang expressed confidence that God would protect them (those sent back) and that they would reunite even if the North Korean regime collapsed. Pastor Kim Jung-ae of the National Movement for Investigating Human Rights Violations Against North Korean Defectors and Pastor Park Jung-ho of the North Korean Defectors' Freedom Union, who are also defectors, made emotional pleas. Prominent attorney Kim Tae-hoon, Professor Lee Yong-hee, head of the Esther Prayer Movement, and Pastor Lee Sang-won of the National Square for National Unity Prayer also strongly condemned the actions. They urged the international media to reveal the tragic reality of human rights abuses in North Korea and declared that they would shout 'Boycott China' in all international events where China seeks leadership in the future.

"Do not rescue those who are being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter." (Proverbs 24:11)
○Even after repeated warnings and appeals from the international community, China's forced repatriation of a large number of North Korean defectors is causing a severe humanitarian crisis. The number of forcibly repatriated individuals is estimated to be at least 600, possibly reaching 2,600, according to reports. Please pray for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN Refugee Agency to take a strong stand against China's forced repatriation of North Korean defectors.
○Pray for China to now abandon its policy of forcibly repatriating North Korean defectors. We cannot do this on our own; we seek the supernatural intervention of God. Lord, please help us!
○Pray for our government to exert its best efforts to protect the lives and safety of forcibly repatriated North Korean defectors. By continuously pressuring North Korean authorities through international organizations to disclose the status of their life and safety, may the North Korean regime be made aware of the world's attention, ensuring that there are no human rights abuses against forcibly repatriated North Korean defectors.
○Regardless of the environment in which they find themselves, whether in China or forcibly repatriated to North Korea, may all North Korean defectors hear the message of the gospel through God's ordained means and come to believe in Jesus Christ. Lord, protect them like the apple of your eye.
3. Unification Ministry Urges the Repatriation of Kim Jeong-uk Missionary Detained for 10 Years in North Korea
▶ ▶ Article Summary
The government is urging the swift repatriation of our citizens, including Kim Jeong-uk missionary, who has been detained for a long period in North Korea. Kim Jeong-uk, a missionary involved in North Korean missions and humanitarian support projects in Dandong, China since 2007, was suddenly arrested in Pyongyang on October 8, 2013, on charges of illegal border crossing. In the following year, in 2014, he was sentenced to forced labor and reeducation for charges such as national evangelism, anti-national propaganda, illegal border crossing, and other accusations related to "forced labor and ideological conversion." In addition, Kim Guk-ki and Choi Chun-gil missionaries were detained in 2014, and South Korean nationals who had defected, Kim Won-ho, Go Hyeon-cheol, and Ham Jin-woo missionaries were detained in 2016. On the 8th, the Ministry of Unification criticized that "on the 10th anniversary of Kim Jeong-uk's forced detention by the Kim Jong-un regime," the North Korean authorities have sentenced our citizens, who helped the vulnerable people in North Korea, to 'forced labor and ideological conversion,' and are causing further suffering to their families by not providing even the minimum information about their life and death. The Ministry said, "The government condemns these illegal and inhumane measures by the North Korean authorities" and strongly urged North Korea, which is also a signatory to international human rights agreements, to immediately send back our citizens detained in North Korea to their loving families. The Ministry announced that it will cooperate with religious groups and civil organizations and work closely with the international community to confirm the life and death of detainees and to repatriate them.

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute." (Proverbs 31:8)
○Lord, we earnestly pray that all six South Korean nationals, including three missionaries detained in North Korea, Kim Jeong-uk, Kim Guk-ki, Choi Chun-gil, Go Hyeon-cheol, Kim Won-ho, and Ham Jin-woo, return to the embrace of their waiting families. Protect their health and lives, and bring comfort and hope to the hearts of their families.
○We are thankful for the statement issued by our government, urging the repatriation of the missionaries detained in North Korea. We pray that when our government makes diverse efforts to rescue them, there will be fruitful results, and that the Korean church will embrace this as a mission for our families, pray with sincerity, and offer support.
○We pray for the prompt end of the three-generation hereditary dictatorship in North Korea and the deification of the Kim Il-sung family. May the political prison camps be closed, leading to the release of the imprisoned North Korean residents and believers. Let the underground church members held in prisons be freed to worship God and testify to the Lord freely.
