Oct week1 Prayer Points for North Korea
1. "North Korean Ambassador to UN receives Letter Urging an End to Forced Repatriation"
▶ ▶ Article Summary
After the UN General Assembly, a protest took place on September 27th in front of the North Korean representatives to the UN, just one day after North Korean Ambassador Kim Sung-young's speech at the UN General Assembly. The protest aimed to demand the cessation of the forced repatriation of North Korean defectors detained in China. Korean defectors, including Lee So-yeon, the representative of the Korean defector women's group "New Korea Women's Alliance," and Christian organizations advocating for North Korea, such as the "New York Square Prayer Meeting for Korean Reunification," participated in the protest.
They distributed pamphlets to the public, highlighting the dangers faced by defectors during forced repatriation in China and the human rights situation in North Korea. Carrying protest banners, they marched to the UN headquarters. On September 19th, the New Korea Women's Alliance delivered an open letter to the North Korean mission, and it was confirmed that the North Korean mission had received it. The reason for sending the open letter to the North Korean mission, rather than to China, was explained by the representative, who stated that they wanted to send a message that the international community was watching North Korea. She expressed, "We wanted to convey the message that the international community is paying attention to these 2,600 people and their human rights, and if they are forcibly disappeared, the international community will raise its voice."
Regarding Ambassador Kim Sung's claim in his UN speech on September 26th that North Korea's human rights issue is a matter of "sovereign rights," representative Lee vented her anger, "It's nonsense!" while recalling her own son, who disappeared while attempting to defect to South Korea.

"Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, 'But we knew nothing about this,' does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?" (Proverbs 24:11-12, NIV)
○Lord, we beseech Your mercy upon our North Korean defectors detained in China. May the Korean government, the international community, as well as the Korean and global churches raise a stronger voice, creating an unstoppable public opinion, so that the Chinese government recognizes these defectors as UN refugees and allows them to freely go to the countries they desire.
○Let the oppressive three-generation dictatorship in North Korea, which has created a "gigantic prison," come to an end swiftly. Bring about the unification of the Gospel of freedom and democracy, so that our compatriots in the North, who are groaning under severe human rights oppression, can also enjoy the freedom and liberation You have granted.
○Gracious Lord, please visit the hearts of impoverished North Korean defectors in the anxiety and fear of forced repatriation in Chinese prisons. As believing defectors share the Gospel within the prison, lead many non-believing defectors to faith in Jesus and bring about the work of soul salvation. Thus, they may experience peace within the prison, offer prayers of faith in Your name, and experience You as their Helper.
2. "Harsh Sentences Given to Detained Chungjin National University Students for Watching South Korean Films"
▶ ▶ Article Summary
According to DailyNK on the 26th, six 1st and 2nd-year students from Chungjin National University were recently sentenced to prison terms, with two of them receiving life sentences with hard labor and the remaining four sentenced to 10 to 15 years of hard labor. They were arrested on charges related to their viewing of South Korean films in March. These students were apprehended on-site based on a fellow student's report and were taken to the Chungjin City Ministry of State Security. They were immediately transferred to the United Command for the Anti-Socialists and Non-Socialists (hereinafter referred to as the United Command) without giving a change for their families intervention. The United Command subsequently conducted searches of all their homes, during which a large number of USB drives containing South Korean films, dramas, songs, and more were discovered. Following this discovery, the United Command apprehended all individuals involved up to the point when these USB drives were obtained.
Witnesses described the atmosphere surrounding the incident as one of pity, saying, "There are hardly any university students in North Hamgyong Province who haven't watched South Korean films, dramas, or songs, and it was really unfortunate that they were caught." Some students who attended the same school shed tears out of sympathy, and sources reported that this incident has instilled fear in university students in other cities and counties in the province.

3. "One Passenger Plane Spotted Heading from Moscow to Pyongyang... Possibility of Foreign Minister and Satellite Experts' Visit to North Korea"
▶ ▶ Article Summary
On the 26th, one passenger plane heading from Moscow, Russia, to Pyongyang, North Korea, was spotted in the morning, raising the possibility of high-ranking Russian officials visiting North Korea. North Korea and Russia agreed during their summit meeting on the 13th to hold a North Korea-Russia foreign ministers' meeting in early October in Pyongyang. There is cautious speculation that Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, may have moved up his schedule to make a surprise visit to North Korea. There is also a possibility that Russian officials have entered North Korea for military cooperation between the two countries. Russian President Putin pledged at the recent summit that Russia would provide support related to North Korea's military reconnaissance satellite, scheduled for its third launch in October. This has led to speculation that Russian technical experts may have gone to Pyongyang. Neither North Korea nor Russia officially mentioned the plane that entered Pyongyang on the same day.
