1. "54 Human Rights Organizations from 17 Countries Send Open Letter to Xi Jinping: 'Stop Forcible Repatriation of North Korean Defectors'"
▶ ▶ Article Summary
On the 21st, 54 human rights organizations from 17 countries worldwide sent an open letter to Chinese President Xi Jinping requesting the cessation of the forcible repatriation of North Korean defectors detained in China. In the letter, they expressed concerns about the reopening of North Korea's borders and the resumption of the forcible repatriation of over 2,000 North Korean detainees in China. They emphasized that once repatriated, North Korean defectors could face torture, sexual violence, arbitrary detention, forced disappearances, and even execution, forced abortion, and infanticide. Human rights organizations stated that "the forcible repatriation of North Korean refugees violates the principle of non-refoulement as stipulated in refugee agreements and anti-torture agreements" and called on the Chinese government to officially terminate its policy of forcibly repatriating North Korean defectors and implement individual refugee status determination procedures. The open letter was led by South Korean North Korean human rights organization 'Transitional Justice Working Group (TJWG)' and U.S. international human rights organization 'Human Rights Watch (HRW)' and was participated in by organizations including the International Coalition Against Enforced Disappearances (ICAED), the Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances (AFAD), the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty (WCADP), the Anti-Death Penalty Asia Network (ADPAN), and Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) from countries such as South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Canada, France, Germany, Belgium, Malaysia, the Philippines, El Salvador, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Georgia, Nepal, Argentina, and Spain.

"Do not withhold rescue from those who are led away to death, and do not hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter." (Proverbs 24:11, ESV)
○Lord, may President Yoon Suk-yeol, the South Korean government, and the governments of the 28 member countries of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) urge China to halt the forcible repatriation of North Korean defectors. May an unstoppable global public opinion arise, and may the Chinese government grant UN refugee status to the 2,600 detained North Korean defectors, allowing them to go to the countries of their choice.
○Even in the oppression of the three-generation hereditary dictatorship, may the Holy Spirit blow in the land of North Korea, breaking all the chains of wickedness and bondage. May the fulfillment of the Gospel unification prepared by the Lord come quickly, so there is no longer a need to cry out "Stop Forcible Repatriation of North Korean Defectors."
○In the midst of the crisis of forcible repatriation, may the Lord visit the impoverished souls of the 2,600 North Korean defectors detained in China. Through North Korean defectors who believe in Jesus within the prison walls, may they hear the Gospel and receive Jesus as their Savior, finding salvation in their hearts through the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
2. "Residents Don't Even Think of Chuseok as a Holiday"
▶ ▶ Article Summary
Even during the "March of Hardship," North Koreans prepared for Chuseok (Korean harvest festival) or Lunar New Year by obtaining meat, fish, and fruits, paying homage to ancestors and satisfying their hunger. However, recent reports indicate that North Koreans don't even consider preparations for Chuseok. While they celebrated the 9.9 Day (the anniversary of the establishment of North Korea's regime) with fireworks and loud celebrations not long ago, during Chuseok, most residents are focused on working in the fields, with no thoughts of preparing special meals. In contrast, North Korean defectors who have settled in South Korea are busy preparing for Chuseok with food, Chuseok gifts, and other preparations for their families. They express gratitude by choosing the most heartfelt gifts for those who have helped them during their resettlement journey, such as health supplements, fruit gift sets, meat sets, and more. Kim Jong-un, self-proclaimed "leader of the people," continues preparations for war, including the production of weapons, while neglecting the welfare of his people. There is no news of North Korea addressing food shortages or resolving the issue of Russian fishing rights to benefit its people. The North Korean Workers' Party and Kim Jong-un should listen to the voices of the residents who say they don't even think about the national holiday of Chuseok and embark on a path of change and reform, which is truly the duty of a leader of the people.

"He will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help." (Psalm 72:12, NIV)
○As residents are pushed into a situation where they don't even consider Chuseok, we pray for the swift end of the three-generation hereditary dictatorship in North Korea. May the regime, which spends astronomical amounts on nuclear and missile development and idolizing the Kim family, come to an end. May leaders who prioritize the well-being of North Korean residents, respect human rights, and uphold the values of a true leader be established.
○May North Korean defectors who have left their families behind and come to South Korea not feel lonely during the long Chuseok holiday. Watch over them so that they do not face difficulties. May Gospel unification come soon, allowing families separated by the North and South to reunite, enjoy a bountiful and warm Chuseok, and share the joy of blood relatives, worshiping and witnessing freely in the Lord's blessings. May the Korean church and believers serve the needs of North Korean defectors with the love of the Lord.
○On the Korean Peninsula, where the sin of idol worship is deeply rooted, we pray that idol worship during the national holiday of Chuseok will not prevail. May believers fulfill the roles of light and salt as they gather with their families and relatives, spreading the Gospel during their time together.
3. "87% of North Korean Defector Women in China Have Children... Forced Separation and Human Rights Exposed"
▶ ▶ Article Summary
The organization "Unified Moms Alliance," which supports North Korean women who have lost their children in a third country, held a 'North Korean Human Rights' forum as a side event at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on the 22nd. They revealed the human rights situation of 221 North Korean defector women in China. Among the surveyed defector women, 87% responded that they have children. Among these, 79% have an average of 1.4 children in China, and 28% have children in both China and North Korea. North Korean defector women in China face human rights violations due to China's anti-human rights repatriation measures, resulting in the forced separation of mothers from their children and vulnerability under strict surveillance. When mothers are forcibly repatriated to North Korea, their children may be placed in facilities or become victims of another form of human trafficking. Chinese authorities issue "temporary residence registration cards" to North Korean women, but the Unified Moms Alliance criticized this policy as deceptive, leading to the confinement of these women and their children in a vulnerable human rights situation rather than guaranteeing residency stability. In practice, those who obtain temporary residence registration are subjected to strict surveillance, including mobile phone inspections by Chinese public security authorities 2-3 times a month, and daily submission of photographs by Chinese husbands to public security authorities. Furthermore, the use of airplanes, trains, or receiving medical services is impossible. While 81% were induced to register for temporary residency with promises that they would not be forcibly repatriated, there have been cases where this promise was broken.

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute." (Proverbs 31:8, NIV)
○Lord, we pray for the North Korean women in China who are subjected to human rights violations such as human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and forced marriages. They not only fear forced repatriation but also live under surveillance and control due to the temporary residence registration system. We ask that you grant UN refugee status to all North Korean defectors, including the 2,600 detained individuals, so they no longer have to live in hiding or under invasive human rights surveillance. May they enjoy their inherent rights and travel to the countries of their choice.
○Lord, we pray that no more North Korean defector mothers and children are forcibly separated through inhumane forced repatriation. May North Korean defector women in China be able to exercise their maternal rights over their children without infringement. Protect the rights of children to receive maternal care from their mothers. We ask the international community and the South Korean government to raise their voices on this issue and urge Chinese authorities to actively address and resolve this problem.
○Lord, may the South Korean church and overseas Korean churches open their mouths about this suffering experienced by our fellow countrymen. May they actively support the achievement of a free democratic gospel unification to ensure that our fellow countrymen no longer suffer such humiliation and disgrace..
